SoFla Writers: News, Classes, and Signings

Workshops and Classes
Hunky Dr. Sean
A FREE workshop for published authors (although I'll bet non-published ones can sneak in), sponsored by The Writers Network of South Florida: Publicity and Social Media Bootcamp, takes place September 21, featuring authors Deborah SharpLouis K. Lowy, and author and Survivor survivor Sean Kenniff. This is an amusing assortment of presenters, folks. Highly recommended. Contact the Writers Network for further info, or email me, and I'll forward you the announcement.

YA author Marjetta Geerling has added a second kidlit class, The World of Picture Books, Middle Grade, and Young Adult Fiction starting September 20; it runs for eight consecutive Wednesdays at The Center for Literature and Theater, Miami Dade College. Cost is $170 ($120 for students). Marjetta is the author of Fancy White Trash, selected as one of the American Library Association's Best Books of 2009. Click here to sign up.

Blue Planet Writers Room offers three adult creative writing classes beginning Monday, September 12: How to Pen a Fascinating Memoir on Monday nights; Writing the Short Story on Tuesdays (I'm teaching that one); and Reading as a Writer on Wednesdays (click here for the syllabus; I'm teaching that one, too.) Click here for full details.

NOW FOR THE WINE AND CANAPES: Book Launches

Lewis: Wicked happy
Fort Lauderdale kidlit author Joanne Lewis will be spilling the champagne on September 10th to launch her new book, co-written with her sister Amy Lewis Faircloth: Wicked Good, with a luncheon at the 11th Street Annex in Fort Lauderdale. Only a few spots are left, but if you miss it, she'll also be signing the book on October 12, and hosting another luncheon that month. I'll post a reminder. In the meantime, download the book Kirkus Reviews has called "A funny, frazzled tale of extreme parenting" here.

Sharp: Star-struck
Deborah Sharp kicks off the latest installment of her Mace Bauer series with a star-studded party for Mama Sees Stars on September 15th. Sharp is a former USA Today reporter turned wacky-Mama-mystery writer (for all you late bloomers, she started writing fiction at age 50). Mama Sees Stars is set in fictional Himmarshee, Florida, and takes off when a Hollywood production company lands in town. "A terrific combination of sleuthing and silliness," opines the St. Pete Times.

  1. Hi Gail - I'm a fellow campaigner stopping by to say hello and follow. I write picture books, mostly, but am hoping to branch out into MG/YA. Nice to meet you, and look forward to getting to know you though the campaign!

  2. Awesomeness. This would be perfect to share with the Wednesday night group, but I don't have any emails. As soon as Donna contacts me, I'll send her this link, unless you want to mail it right to her?
